If you have a clumsy person in your family or company, you might find that you are regularly getting cracked phone screens repaired. Here are some of your options in order of cost.

Cheapest - repair it yourself

There are a growing number of replacement screens for all models of phone available on online auction websites such as eBay, as well as specialist electronic stores. You can watch some useful how-to videos online and try the repair yourself. It can be a fiddly job, however, and is best suited to someone who is comfortable working with fine tools and delicate materials.

It's best to attempt this if you are sure that that the crack is the only damage. Often cracked screens result from phones being dropped, so the casing can often be bent or damaged by the fall as well. If there is more damage, it's advisable to take the phone into a repairer as the frame may also need to be replaced.

It's important to note that sometimes by doing your own repairs your warranty may be voided.

Mid range - mobile phone repairer

There are a growing number of third party repairers who can make repairs to your phone, including replacing screens and repairing any damage to the frame and/or casing. This is a good option if you are not a confident DIYer, as third party repairers are very experienced in changing out screens on a range of models. They are also easy to access as they are often located in local shopping centres and can generally do your repairs very quickly so you can get your phone back as soon as possible.

Most expensive - phone retailer

You can also try taking the phone back to the store where you bought it. This tends to be the most expensive option but is the best way to ensure that any guarantee remains in place. They can repair any parts of the phone but can also offer you a replacement phone if your phone ends up being irreparable. In many cases, you can negotiate a discount for a new phone if you are a repeat customer.

There is a range of options for getting a phone repaired, depending on the extent of the damage to the phone and your budget. Be sure to also pick up a new phone case after the repair to make sure the phone screen won't end up breaking again any time soon!
